Cincinnati, OH: Extended Session

Can you guess who got the extra special photoshop treatment? Spoiler: the answer is the last photo!

These two sweet baby boys joined their family just a month apart from each other, so family photos this year was even more fun. The best part about photographing babies is their unapologetic ability to be themselves. Their joy is infectious and in this specific shoot, a happy baby makes for a happy room of grownups. Of course these two sweet boys stole the show and were magical in the studio, but the real magic happened a couple months before the big family gathering.

My client was on top of her game like super moms always are and knew one of her sons was not going to be able to be home for the holiday season. So we hatched a plan! We went to the studio we also reserved for family photos and took all of the youngest sons individual photos before he headed out of town. Then at Christmas when it was time to get everyone together we made sure the studio, props, and lighting all matched our original photos. A little assistance in photoshop then poof! Mom got her Christmas wish to have all of her people in one picture!

Client Tips!

Fail to plan is a plan to fail! Or at least that’s the thought that plagues me every time leaving the house with a baby feels like. I’d like to think after a couple kiddos I can be easy breezy, but who are we kidding! I’m an over packer. In the case for photographing babies, you can never plan enough! Plan for extra outfits, plan for a hungry, tired, or cranky little one. Plan to need breaks and plan on asking for help so it doesn’t get overwhelming. Big family photoshoots take lots of co-ordinating even when your kids are grown ups, then throw in the babies and it can feel like a full day event.

This is when hiring the right photographer is going to be the best asset you have to make your picture dreams happen. Make sure when you’re in your interviewing process to find the right person for the job, they have experience with large groups, groups of young children, and are proficient in post editing. Because no matter how great of a shot you can be with a camera, eyes and heads inevitably might need to be swapped out. Or in this case, added!
